Bethel Police Union Endorses Kim!
Below is the endorsement:
The Bethel Police Union, as an organization, has prided itself on remaining neutral in matters of politics. We have held this position, because we in good faith, have trusted elected officials on both sides of the isle to pursue legislation that focuses on victims of crime and the public we serve in our district. Unfortunately, we no longer have that faith in State Senator Will Haskell and break from our tradition of political neutrality by publicly endorsing Kim Healy for State Senate.
During the General Assembly’s Special Session to discuss “police accountability”, our
members reached out to State Senator Will Haskell having several conversations with him that have fallen on deaf ears. Our members acknowledged the concerns raised in support of the bill, and requested to work with State Senator Will Haskell and his colleagues to construct meaningful legislation that would address concerns raised without coming at the expense of the victims and public we serve. Despite these emphatic pleas to work together, State Senator Will Haskell explicitly stated that he “needed to stand in support of his New Haven colleagues”.
Despite pointing out to State Senator Haskell that he represents the people of his district and not New Haven, he showed his allegiance to “party leadership” and identity politics, rather than to the people that elected him to office and the public in his district that he has a duty to serve.
State Senator Will Haskell vocally supported this bill being fully advised of the numerous
negative impacts that this bill will have on victims of crime and the public at large. Moreover, he voted for this bill in a manner that undermines the legislative process that is designed to produce sound legislation. He not only voted for this bill, but voted for it knowing that it did not allow him to make any changes. Changes that the “highest deliberative body” in the legislature may have seen fit. State Senator Will Haskell has proven that his lack of experience in politics and lack of work history has made him a poor choice for holding such an important government seat.
Further, he has shown his lack of fitness to serve through his lack of integrity by betraying the people of the District 26 and representing the passions and dictates of his party’s leadership and his “New Haven colleagues”. The people of the District 26 deserve better than State Senator Will Haskell. They deserve a candidate who puts the people above party, they deserve a candidate with both life and work experience that is relative to the people they serve; they deserve Kim Healy.
Kim Healy is a candidate with the character, life and work experience needed to make sound
legislation that represents the people of District 26. The men and women of the Bethel Police
Union are proud of the town that we serve and will always stand up for our community. It is for these reasons that we humbly ask you stand with us and support Kim Healy!
